These eggs have reached the "eyed" egg stage of development, the small black spots are the eyes of the developing embryos. Some have hatched, their notochord and yoke sac are clearly evident. The yoke sac will provide nourishment and will slowly be absorbed at which time they are then referred to as "buttoned-up" fry.
